| General Description | Straw to amber liquid with a pungent, garlic-like odor. Sinks and slowly mixes with water. | | Air & Water Reactions | Highly flammable. | | Reactivity Profile | Halogenated aliphatic compounds, such as DICHLOROPROPANE - DICHLOROPROPENE, are moderately or very reactive. Reactivity generally decreases with increased degree of substitution of halogen for hydrogen atoms. Low molecular weight haloalkanes are highly flammable and can react with some metals to form dangerous products. Materials in this group are incompatible with strong oxidizing and reducing agents. Also, they are incompatible with many amines, nitrides, azo/diazo compounds, alkali metals, and epoxides. Behavior in Fire: Can react with aluminum, magnesium and their alloys. Can generate highly irritating and explosive vapors [USCG, 1999]. | | Health Hazard | Toxic; may be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Inhalation causes gasping, refusal to breathe and respiratory distress. Contact may cause burns to skin and eyes. Ingestion may cause acute gastrointestinal distress with congestion and edema of the lungs. | | Safety Profile | Poison by ingestion and
