Reaction Conditions:

with (η5-(propenyl)-tetramethylcyclopentadienyl)Re tricarbonyl in 1,2-dichloro-ethane at 80; for 18 h;Inert atmosphere;Schlenk technique;Friedel-Crafts Alkylation;Reagent/catalyst;

Steps:

General procedure for catalytic tests

General procedure: The catalytic reactions were carried out under an argonatmosphere with magnetic stirring. The required rheniumcarbonyl complex (0.04 mmol) was mixed with 1,2-dichloroethane (3.5 mL) in a 25-mL round-bottom flask atroom temperature. Aromatic compounds (2 mmol) andtert-butyl halides (4 mmol) were added by syringe. Thereaction mixture was stirred at 80 C for 18 h. Aftercooling to room temperature, the solid catalyst was separatedfrom the reaction mixture by filtration. The filtratewas concentrated by rotary evaporation, and the residuewas purified by Al2O3 column chromatography, elutingwith petroleum ether to give a colorless liquid. The courseof the reaction was monitored using an Agilent 6820 gaschromatograph.
