ChemicalBook CAS DataBase List 4,4'-Dichlorobenzophenone

4,4'-Dichlorobenzophenone synthesis

14synthesis methods
4,4'-Dichlorobenzophenone is prepared by the acylation of chlorobenzene with 4-chlorobenzoyl chloride. The conversion is typically conducted in the presence of an aluminium chloride catalyst in a petroleum ether solvent.
ClC6H5C(O)Cl + C6H5Cl → (ClC6H4)2CO + HCl

Yield:90-98-2 98%

Reaction Conditions:

with γ-picoline;tert.-butylhydroperoxide;sodium copper chlorophyllin in lithium hydroxide monohydrate;propan-2-one at 80; for 10 h;chemoselective reaction;

Steps:

3.2. General Procedure for the Oxidation of Secondary Alcohols (or Diarylmethanes) Catalyzed by SCC

General procedure: A solution of secondary alcohol (or diarylmethane) (0.5 mmol), SCC (1 mol %), 70% TBHP(1.5 mmol), and 4-methylpyridine (1.5 mmol) in acetone/H2O (1:0.5 mL) was stirred at 80°C for 10 h.The reaction mixture was quenched with the saturated solution of sodium thiosulfate (5 mL) andextracted with dichloromethane (3 10 mL). The combined dichloromethane extracts were dried overanhydrous Na2SO4, filtrated, and then the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel with PE/EtOAc as the eluent to obtain the desired products.
