Steps:

4.1.2 N-(2-(3-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)propanoyl)-4-methoxyphenyl)formamide (2)
General procedure: To solution of 1 (437mg, 1.36mmol) in methanol (26mL) was added dropwise a solution of NaIO₄ (1.17g, 5.46mmol) in water (30mL) at 0°C. The mixture was stirred at 80°C for 12h and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was putted into water (25mL) and extracted with DCM (3×50mL). The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO₄ and evaporated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (PE/AcOEt); 10:0 to 7:3 (v/v)) to afford 2 as a brown powder (71% yield).
