Obtained by alkaline degradation of afromosin (7-hydroxy-6,4′-dimethoxyisoflavone). Afromosin (m.p. 228–229°), was isolated from afromosia elata Harms. Afromosin is the aglycone of wistin (m.p. 209–210°), itself isolated from the bark of wistaria floribunda DC.
