Methyl (R)-2-(Benzyloxy)propionate is used in the process for preparation of optically active 2-hydroxypropoxyaniline derivatives as intermediates for Levofloxacin via enzymic or microbial stereoselective hydrolysis of racemic lactic acid ester.
