Insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone. It does not decompose when heated to 300℃. The viscosity changes very little over time and is not easily corrupted. Heat treatment, neutral salts, and organic acids have little effect on its viscosity, but the viscosity increases under alkaline conditions. When encountering divalent or higher metal ions (such as aluminum, lead, iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc), they form insoluble salts, causing molecular cross-linking and gelation and precipitation. When the pH is below 4, polyacrylic acid precipitates. Easily affected by acids and metal ions, the viscosity is reduced.

Application

Summary: Sodium polyacrylate can be used as a thickener, emulsifier, film-forming agent, and dispersant. Used to prepare facial masks, lotions, etc. It can also be used as a descaling agent for water treatment, coating of organic glass, paper industry and boiler water treatment. The application fields of sodium polyacrylate cover many industries such as petroleum industry circulating water systems. Due to the expansion of its application fields, production technology has developed rapidly.

1. In food, sodium polyacrylate can enhance the protein cohesion in raw flour, allowing starch particles to combine with each other, disperse and penetrate into the protein network structure, form a dense and stable dough colloid, and prevent soluble starch from seeping out. Make the surface of the dough smooth and shiny; sodium polyacrylate has strong water retention, which can keep the water evenly in the dough and prevent drying; sodium polyacrylate interacts with proteins and can change the protein structure, enhance the viscoelasticity of food, and improve the tissue. For example, sodium polyacrylate is used in bread, cakes, noodles, and macaroni to increase raw material utilization and improve taste and flavor. The dosage is 0.05% (mass); it is used in aquatic products, canned foods, dried seaweed, etc. It can strengthen the structure, maintain freshness, and enhance the taste; used in sauces, tomato salad, mayonnaise, jam, cream, soy sauce, etc., as a thickener and stabilizer; used in juice, wine, etc., as a dispersant Agent; used in ice cream, etc. to improve taste and stability; because it dissolves slowly in water, it can be mixed with sugar, powdered starch syrup, emulsifiers, etc. in advance to increase the dissolution speed. Generally speaking, its maximum dosage is 0.2% (mass). It is also used as a clarifying agent (polymer flocculant) for sugar liquid, salt water, beverages, etc.

2. As an electrolyte, it interacts with proteins, changes the protein structure, enhances the viscoelasticity of food, and improves tissue. 

3. Since it dissolves slowly in water, it can be mixed with sugar, powdered starch syrup, emulsifier, etc. in advance to increase the dissolution speed.

 4. Used as a clarifying agent (polymer flocculant) for sugar liquid, salt water, beverages, etc.



Application examples

(1) Bread, cake, noodles, macaroni, improve the utilization rate of raw materials and improve the taste and flavor. Dosage 0.05%.

(2) Aquatic products, canned food, dried seaweed, etc., strengthen the structure, maintain freshness, and enhance the taste.

(3) Sauces, tomato sauce, mayonnaise, jam, cream, soy sauce, thickeners and stabilizers.

(4) Juice, alcohol, etc., dispersants.

(5) Ice cream and caramel sugar improve taste and stability.

(6) Frozen food, processed aquatic products, surface gelling agent (preservation).

Other uses

1. Used as corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor, water quality stabilizer, coating thickener and water retaining agent, flocculant, drilling mud treatment agent, etc.

2. It is used for circulating cold water treatment of copper equipment, and its scale inhibition effect is good. When the dosage is 100 mg/L, it can form chelates with scale-forming ions in medium hardness water and flow with the water, and can prevent the formation of iron oxide scale.

3. Used as a fluid loss reducer in low solid phase drilling industry.

4. Good dispersant. It can be used in combination with other water treatment agents for oil field water injection, cooling water, and boiler water treatment.
