About the Uses and Side effects of Fasudil hydrochloride

Fasudil hydrochloride is a potent Rho-kinase inhibitor and vasodilator. Since it was discovered, it has been used for the treatment  of cerebral vasospasm, which is often due to subarachnoid hemorrhage,  as well as to improve the cognitive decline seen in stroke patients.

Uses of Fasudil hydrochloride

Fasudil hydrochloride can inhibit the phosphorylation of myosin light chain at the contractile end of smooth muscle, dilate blood vessels, relieve cerebral vasospasm and cerebral ischemia. It is often used to improve and prevent cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebral vasospasm and the symptoms of cerebral ischemia caused by it.

Side effects of Fasudil hydrochloride

1. Occasional intracranial hemorrhage (1.63%), occasional gastrointestinal bleeding, pulmonary hemorrhage, epistaxis, subcutaneous hemorrhage (0.29%), etc. Pay attention to observation, if there is any abnormality, the drug should be stopped and corresponding measures should be taken.

2. Circulatory system: Occasionally hypotension, facial flushing.

3. Blood system: occasionally anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia.

4. Abnormal liver function sometimes occurs: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), etc. increase.

5. Urinary system: Occasionally abnormal renal function (elevated urea (BUN), creatinine, etc.), polyuria.

6. Digestive system: abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, etc. are less common.

7. Allergies: Occasionally, allergic symptoms such as skin rashes may be seen.

8. Other: fever (occasionally), headache, low level of consciousness, respiratory depression (rarely).
