Can Canagliflozin heMihydrate treat Glioblastoma(GBM) patients?

Nov 9,2023

Canaglifozin is a SGLT2 inhibitor and used as a treatment for diabetes mellitus. Among SGLT2 inhibitors, antitumor efects of canaglifozin are the most frequently reported, and these have been proven to be efective for multiple tumors. An in vitro study demonstrated that administration of cagliflozin and SGLT2 knockdown inhibited the proliferation and growth of GBM cells by increasing phosphorylated AMPK. The results suggest that SGLT2 is involved in glucose uptake in GBM and that SGLT2 inhibitors are potentially effective treatments for GBM. However, there are no clinical studies that evaluated the antitumor efect of SGLT2 inhibitors on GBM patients[1].
