2.3 Ultrasound-promoted synthesis of 2-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles
General procedure: To a solution of N-isocyanoiminotriphenylphosphorane (2) (0.302 g, 1 mmol) in dry CH₂Cl₂ (4 mL), a solution of 2-aryl-benzoic acid derivatives (1) (1 mmol) in dry CH₂Cl₂ (4 mL) was added and the mixture was sonicated in an ultrasonic cleaner at room temperature. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and the viscous residue was purified by precoated glass-backed plates [silica gel; petroleum ether/ethyl acetate (10:2)]. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and the product (5) was obtained.
