Steps:

2.2.11 General procedure IV: phenol-participated synthesis of coumarin
General procedure: The mixture of phenols (1 equiv.), ethyl acetoacetate (for C2-3, 1.5 equiv.) or ethyl trifluoroacetoacetate (for C4-6, 1.5 equiv.) and HClO4 (5 equiv.) was stirred under microwave (Power 400W) for 20min. The reaction was complete as monitored by TLC. After the mixture was cooled to room temperature, EtOAc was added. The mixture was washed with saturated NaCl, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by chromatography on silica gel to give the target compounds C2-6.
