Methyl N-cyano-N-alkyl/arylaminoacetate 1 was treated with aqueous ammonia solution (30%, specific gravity = 0.89) at room temperature as per reaction time mentioned in Scheme 1. The precipitate of product formed was filtered and dried to get the 2-iminohydantoins 2.
