Ethyl 2-[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]acetoacetate can be prepared by β-(diethylamino) ethanol and thionyl chloride under alkaline conditions to generate β-(diethylamino) chloroethane, and the product is then condensed with sodium methoxide and ethyl acetoacetate.
