Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Chemical Properties]
Colorless liquid. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Fresh, oily-floral, citrusy odor with mildly herbaceous-green notes and moderate tenacity.
| [Uses]
Undecanal dimethyl acetal is occasionally used in perfume compositions as a modifier for the aldehyde, mellowing and extending its effect into a wider field, beyond the topnote, where the aldehyde almost inevitably works.
| [Preparation]
Undecanal dimethyl acetal is prepared from Undecanal and Methanol, usually with dry hydrogen chloride as condensing agent, or with Ferrichloride or similar catalyst. |
