ChEBI: Ixocarpalactone A is a withanolide. | [Anticancer Research]
This terpenoid compound is isolated from the edible plant Physalis philadelphica. The leaf and stem extract induces quinine reductase, a phase II enzyme, needed formetabolism of chemical carcinogens. The anticancer activity of ixocarpalactone isexerted through G2/M phase arrest in cell cycle, downregulation of E2F-1, DP-1,upregulation of hyper-phosphorylated retinoblastoma, and induction of apoptosis inSW480 human colon cancer cells (Balunas and Kinghorn 2005; Choi et al. 2006). |
