Beschreibung

A further alkaloid from Vinca rosea L., forming colourless prisms when crystallized from MeOH. The ultraviolet spectrum has absorption maxima at 230, 293 and 328 mil. The base contains a tertiary hydroxyl group and an imino group and, with AC20 in pyridine, furnishes akuammicine (q.v.), by dehydration. Reduction with Zn dust in MeOH-H2S04 yields 2: 16-dihydroakuammicine after preparative thin-layer chromatography on silica gel.
