Biological Activity

ZNF396 (Zinc finger protein 396) is a novel zinc finger protein expressed highly in the liver. It consists of a SCAN (SRE-ZBP, CTfin51, AW-1, and Number 18 cDNA or ZnF20) domain in the N-terminal region and several consecutive C(2)H(2) zinc finger motifs at the C-terminal end. It possesses a transcriptional repression activity. ZNF396 is expressed in basal cell carcinoma (BCC). It has been reported th at ZNF396 may play a role in the Notch-Hes1 (hairy and enhancer of split-1) signaling pathway. It suppresses expression of the notch system effector molecules and prevents BCC cells to enter into the Notch-mediated squamous cell differentiation.
