Preparation
From heptaldehyde and methanol in the presence of an acid catalyst, or by reacting heptaldehyde with trimethyl orthoformate.
Metabolism
Aliphatic acetals hydrolyse readily in the presence of acid to generate the aldehyde and alcohol(Fassett, 1963).
