Uses

Ceramide (Brain) has been used as a lipid standard

• in ultra performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS)
• in liquid chromatography with a hydrophilic interaction column
• in liposome preparation to test it effect on human α–synuclein aggregation

Biological Activity

Ceramides are signaling molecules which play a key role in cellular events. Ceramides promote β-amyloid synthesis and induce neuronal death. Ceramide levels are associated with pathogenesis of many disease states. Impairment of ceramide metabolism is implicated in Parkinsonμs and Alzheimerμs disease. High levels of ceramide is also associated with depression.
