2,6-Dimethylheptanoic Acid is the product from the oxidative degradation of phytanic acid in mammals; Also, it is an intermediate used in the synthesis of 2,6-Dimethylheptanoyl-CoA (D473440), which is a specific substrate for long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (LCAD) which plays a major role in branched-chain fatty acid oxidation.
