Phenoxy resins Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Definition
phenoxy resins: Thermoplasticmaterials made by condensation ofphenols, used mainly for packaging.
Industrial uses
Phenoxy resins differ from the structurally similarepoxy resins based on the reaction ofepichlorohydrin with bisphenol A mainly bypossessing a much higher molecular weight, about 25,000. The polymers are transparent, strong, ductile, and resistant to creep, and, ingeneral, resemble polycarbonates in theirbehavior. Cross-linking may be effected by theuse of curing agents that can react with the OHgroups. Molding and extrusion may be used forfabrication. The major application is as a componentin protective coatings, especially inmetal primers.
