Diphosphane Chemical Properties,Uses,Production

Chemical Properties

Colorless liquid. The vapor ignites spontaneously in air. M.p. -99°C, b.p. +51.7°C. Decomposes on rough surfaces and in the presence of traces of acid (particularly in light) into PH3 and amorphous, yellow "solid hydrogen phosphide," which must be considered a "mixed polymerizate."

Definition

diphosphine: A yellowliquid, P2H4, which is spontaneouslyflammable in air. It isobtained by hydrolysis of calciumphosphide. Many of the references tothe spontaneous flammability ofphosphine (PH3) are in fact due totraces ofP2H4 as impurities.

Definition

A yellow liquid that can be condensed out from phosphine in a freezing mixture. It ignites spontaneously in air.

Definition

ChEBI: The simplest of the diphosphanes, consisting of two covelently linked phosphorus atoms each carrying two hydrogens.
