Biochem/physiol Actions
MAP4K1 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase 1) gene encodes a serine/threonine-protein kinase that is also called as hematopoietic progenitor kinase 1. It is involved in the regulation of signaling pathways involving components such as antigen receptor, epidermal growth factor receptor and Iκ kinases. It is associated with a wide range of molecules including growth factor receptor bound protein 2 (Grb2), the non-catalytic region of tyrosine kinase (Nck), the v-crk sarcoma virus CT10 oncogene homolog, the Src Homology 2 domain containing leukocyte protein of 76 kD (SLP-76) and the hematopoietic progenitor kinase 1-interacting protein of 55kDa (HIP-55) and regulates several cellular processes apoptosis, cell proliferation, polarity and migration. It phosphorylates the adaptor protein CARMA1 (caspase recruitment domain containing protein 11) and regulates T-cell receptor (TCR)-induced activation of nuclear factor of κ light chain in B cells (NF-κB). It is capable of activating both JNK and NF-κB signaling and participates in immune regulation.
