Description
Obtained from the dried branches of Sarothamnus catalaunicus Webb, this alkaloid is dextrorotatory with [α]20D + 73.6° (c 1.0, MeOH). It forms clusters of colourless needles from either MeOH or Et20. On acid hydrolysis it forms lupanine and trimethoxybenzoic acid, thereby confirming the above structure.
