Biochem/physiol Actions

B-phycoerythrin from Porphyridium cruentum was shown to reduce the proliferation of myeloid tumor cells in vitro. Treatment with B-phycoerythrin induced apoptosis and increased glutathione reductase and superoxide dismutase activity.
