white, amorphous powder(s); used in medicine, for fireproofing textiles, as an inhibitor of fungus and mildew, and as a ceramic flux; most common borate is 2ΖnΟ· 3Β2Ο3 ·7Η2Ο, x-ray structure is given as Zn[B2O3(OH)5]·H2O; this hydrate can be prepared by adding borax to a solution of a soluble zinc salt; there are other hydrated borates, for example Zn3B4O9 · 5H2O, CAS RN 12536-65-1, -325 mesh white powder(s) [AES93] [HAW93] [KIR78]
