ANGOSTURA Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Chemical Properties
Angostura (bark) is obtained from Galipea officinalis, a wild-growing tree in the mountains of Venezuela, along the banks of the Orinoco River. The tree may grow up to 20 m in height and has long-stemmed leaves. It has large, cob-shaped, whitishred flowers. The part used is the bark. Angostura has a bitter, slightly aromatic flavor with a pungent aftertaste. The bitter principle is angosturin, the empirical formula for which is C9H12O5.
