Uses
gynostemma pentaphyllum extract is reported as astringent when obtained from the whole plant. An extract from the leaves and stems combined can also have anti-oxidant and emollient properties. It has a high saponin content, which research indicates may be similar to that of ginseng roots. other constituents include sterols and flavonoids. This is a Chinese herb used in traditional medicine; its common Western name is jiaogulan.
