Pale straw-colored oily liquid. Sp,Gr. 0.89. B.P. 271℃. Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Preparation
Pseudomethylionone is produced by condensation of Citral with Methyl ethyl ketone. The resulting product will normally consist of a mixture of approximately 65% Pseudo-normal-methyl ionone and 35% Pseudo-iso-methyl ionone, but this ratio can be controlled to a considerable degree through proper choice of conditions.
