Uses

As a loose abrasive grains. Through pressure blasting, emery (relatively coarse grain size) could used to cleans tone and concrete, clean metal castings, prepare surfaces for painting, and etch glass and plastics . It is mainly used for sawing stone, rough grinding plate glass, and surfacing stone. Emery (fine-grained powders) could charge brass tube which drilling small holes in glass, porcelain, gemstones,ect. Emery cou cast into the treads of steps and ramps to increase traction. As a bonded abrasives. Emery are bonded and pressed or molded into a wide variety of bonded abrasives such as grind ing wheels, honing stones, and tumbling media. Most of the emery is used as hardener for heavy-duty concrete floors and as nonskid material on bridges and at tollbooths.

Definition

emery: A rock composed of corundum(natural aluminium oxide,Al2O3) with magnetite, haematite, orspinel. It occurs on the island ofNaxos (Greece) and in Turkey. Emeryis used as an abrasive and polishingmaterial and in the manufacture ofcertain concrete floors.

General Description

Odorless, white, crystalline powder. Natural aluminum oxide. Very high melting and hard. Used for polishing, grinding, and abrasive operations. An inhalation hazard when present as a dust.
