Benzo[k]fluoranthene-7,12-dicarbonitrile is an intermediate in synthesizing Benzo[k]fluoranthene (B203560), which is used as an optical sensor for nitro-aromatic compounds due to fluorescence quenching of the molecule. It is also a carcinogen and mutagen.
