Some consider amniotic fluid simply an animal protein serving as a surface film-forming agent with moisturizing properties. others claim it is nourishing, has anti-toxic properties, acts as an epithelial stimulant, and can diffuse through the skin. Research indicates that amniotic fluid seems to have a positive effect on wound healing and cellular regeneration. Advocates of its use point out that animal sacrifice is not required to obtain the substance because the amniotic fluid (the fluid surrounding the cow embryo in utero) can be extracted from live animals in their third to sixth month of gestation, supposedly without harm to the animal or fetus.
