Use
Calcium propionate and sodium propionate have fungistatic action. They are added to bread and other bakery products to prevent rope of bread caused by bacteria (Na propionate) and mold formation (Ca propionate). They are used as preservatives for animal feeds and for treatment of ketosis in domestic pets. Mixtures of sodium and calcium salts in an aqueous solution containing 2.5 % propionic acid are recommended for external use in treating mycosis.
