Chemical Properties | yellow to yellow-green or brown powder | Uses | Stilbene disulfonates have been employed to inhibit anion transport in a large number of mammalian cell types (GABA, Cl-). Some stilbene disulfonates can bind specifically to proteins that are not anion transporters. DIDS reacts with CD4 glycoprotein on T helper lymphocytes and macrophages, blocking HIV type-1 growth at multiple stages of the viral life cycle.
Fluorescence: max. Abs. l = 341, max. Em. l = 415 (in water) | Uses | complexing agent for potassium ions | Uses | ATP transport inhibitor, anion transport inhibitor, antiulcer | Uses | DIDS is a stilbene sulfonate that inhibits anionic transport. It has been used to inhibit Cl- uptake through plasma membrane-localized Cl- channels in order to study chloride transport. It also effectively inhibits various sodium-coupled bicarbonate transporters. | storage | Store at +4°C |
