It is expressed in the human placenta. Apart from normal cells, its expression has been found in several malignant neoplasms. | | Biochem/physiol Actions | S100P (S100 calcium binding protein P) is associated with several processes such as calcium homeostasis, cell proliferation, apoptosis, cell invasion and motility. It functions as a Ca2+ signal transducer to activate the membrane as well as F-actin binding protein ezrin during Ca2+ bound conformation. It can also facilitate cell proliferation and survival via receptor for activated glycation end products (RAGE). It has been reported that S100P can be a potential prognostic marker for the triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). |
