Chemical Propertiescarone is a colorless mobile liquid. B.P. 210℃. Sp.Gr. 0.96. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils. Warm-herbaceous, yet refreshing odor. Very volatile (poor tenacity).
Usescarone is occasionally used in the “reconstruction” of essential oils.
PreparationFrom Carvone via Dihy drocarvone, reacted with HBr followed by treatment with alcoholic Potassium hydroxide.
