It can be used in devices such as light emitting diodes and organic solar cells, which are based on the electroluminescence of materials that emit light when electrically stimulated. 1-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-phenylbenzimidazole has been shown to exhibit efficient electron and ionic transport properties, both in cyclic voltammetry and in thin film transistors. This compound can be synthesized using tert-butylchloroformate, benzaldehyde, and 4-bromobenzaldehyde in a cyclic reaction with potassium tert-butoxide as the catalyst. The product is purified by recrystallization from acetone. |
