General Description | Somatostatin Receptor Type 1 (SSTR1) is present in blood vessels, neuroendocrine cells, and the retina. SSTR1 gene is mapped to human chromosome 14q21.1. | Biochem/physiol Actions | Somatostatin Receptor Type 1 (SSTR1) protein extracellular loop regions are crucial for ligand binding. SSTR1 gene down-regulated in reported in preeclampsia but it is overexpressed in breast cancer. It is reported to block the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. However, in pancreatic cell lines, elevated expression of SSTR1 gene favors cell cycle arrest. SSTR1 also plays a tumor suppressor role in gastric cancer invasion. |
