Tripropylene. Usage And Synthesis
General DescriptionA clear colorless liquid with a sharp odor. Flash point 75°F. Insoluble in water and less dense than water. Hence floats on water. May irritate skin on contact. Vapors heavier than air. Inhalation of vapors may cause irritation. Prolonged inhalation may lead to breathing difficulty. Ingestion causes abdominal discomfort, nausea and diarrhea. Used to make other chemicals and as a lubricating oil additive.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Slightly soluble in water.
Reactivity ProfileTripropylene. may react vigorously with strong oxidizing agents. May react exothermically with reducing agents to release hydrogen gas. In the presence of various catalysts (such as acids) or initiators, may undergo exothermic addition polymerization reactions.
Health HazardFrequent or prolonged contact may irritate eyes and damage lungs. May cause headache, dizziness and nausea. May act as anaesthetic and affect central nervous system. If introduced into lung may cause bronchopneumonia or pulmonary edema.
