This domain is capable of binding to two atoms of zinc, thereby mediating protein-protein interactions. It contains an AAA domain that has ATPase activity and is abundantly expressed in spleen and leukocytes. The AAA domain has a ring-shaped structure and mediates several biophysical and mechanical processes. It also functions as a ubiquitin ligase and may regulate vascular development. The gene is a susceptibility gene for Moyamoya disease, an idiopathic human cerebrovascular disorder characterized by progressive stenosis and abnormal collateral vessels. |
