| Biological Activity | CDC5L (Cell division cycle 5-like) encodes a protein with high similarity with the Schizosaccharomyces pombe Cdc5 gene. It is a major subunit of the pre-mRNA splicing complex and essential for pre-mRNA processing and cell cycle progression during G2-M transition. It helps to align kinetochore-microtubule attachment. CDC5L also participates in the DNA damage repair. Phosphorylated CDC5L plays a regulatory role in pre-mRNA splicing. It acts as a pre-mRNA splicing factor in the mitotic progression. Damage in CDC5L activity causes mitotic arrest, chromosome misalignments, as well as triggers to mitotic catastrophe. It also reflects potential oncogenic activity. |
