Anti-Twist related protein 1 (H-twist), Anti-Twist homolog 1 (acrocephalosyndactyly 3, Saethre-Chotzen syndrome) Usage And Synthesis
UsesAnti-TWIST1 polyclonal antibody is used to tag twist homolog 1 for detection and quantitation by Western blotting and in plasma by immunohistochemical (IHC) techniques. It is used as a probe to determine the roles of twist homolog 1 in osteogenic and valvulogenic development and in cancer (NSCLS) development and metastasis.
UsesApplications in which this antibody has been used successfully, and the associated peer-reviewed papers, are given below.
Chromatin immunoprecipitation (1 paper)
General DescriptionTwist is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 7p21.1. The encoded protein is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor. Twist 1 belongs to the Twist gene family and is mainly expressed in the suture mesenchyme.
Biochem/physiol ActionsTwist is required for mesoderm formation. Twist 1 controls embryonic morphogenesis. It also plays a key role in metastasis by inducing an epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). During an EMT, Twist stimulates the expression of mesenchymal markers, such as fibronectin and N-cadherin. In addition, it also blocks E-cadherin expression inhibiting cell-cell adhesion and therefore inducing infiltrative tumor growth in several human carcinomas. Twist1 is required in head mesenchyme for cranial neural tube morphogenesis in mice. Twist1 is involved in osteoblast differentiation and maturation. Increased expression of Twist 1 in breast cancer cells induce angiogenesis and leads to chromosomal instability. Mutations in this gene have been found in patients with Saethre-Chotzen syndrome, an autosomal dominant defect characterized by minor skull and limb anomalies.
