| Uses | Inhibitor (prostaglandin synthesis). | | Veterinary Drugs and Treatments | Flurbiprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent that probably
acts by inhibiting the cyclo-oxygenase enzyme system, thereby
reducing the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins may
mediate certain kinds of ocular inflammation. They may disrupt the
blood-aqueous humor barrier, cause vasodilation, increase intraocular
pressure and leukocytosis, and increase vascular permeability.
Prostaglandins may also cause iris sphincter constriction (miosis)
independent of cholinergic mechanisms. Flurbiprofen can inhibit
this intraocular miosis and may also be useful in the management
of uveal inflammation (usually in addition to topical steroids). |
