The discovery of the ethylene inhibition effect of 1-MCP came from the LABS of Edward dsisler and SylviaBlankenship at North Carolina State University, who jointly hold the patent. Cyclopropene is probably the photoactivation product of DACP which inhibits ethylene for Chemicalbook. In the 1990s, Sisler discovered that 1-MCP is a practical cyclopropene derivative because it is less volatile than cyclopropene itself, and 3-MCP is also a potent inhibitor, but requires higher concentrations than 1-MCP to work.
