Overview:Cagrilintide (also known as AM833) is a long-acting amylin analog developed by Novo Nordisk. It mimics the hormone amylin, which is produced by the pancreas and works alongside insulin to regulate blood glucose levels and promote satiety after meals.

Functions and Uses:

1. Weight Management:

• Mechanism: Cagrilintide works by activating the amylin receptor, which slows gastric emptying and increases the feeling of fullness (satiety). This helps reduce food intake and, consequently, body weight.

• Clinical Trials: In phase 2 clinical trials, cagrilintide showed significant weight loss effects when used alone or in combination with semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Participants using cagrilintide and semaglutide together experienced greater weight loss compared to those using semaglutide alone 

2. Diabetes Management:

• Blood Sugar Control: Cagrilintide, by mimicking amylin, helps in better glycemic control. It complements the action of insulin and GLP-1 receptor agonists like semaglutide by enhancing satiety and slowing the rate at which glucose enters the bloodstream 

Dosage and Administration:Cagrilintide is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection. It is often used in combination with semaglutide for enhanced efficacy in weight loss and glycemic control.
