Description: 

Esomeprazole sodium, the sodium salt form of esomeprazole, is a commonly used antiulcer drug and is a proton pump inhibitor. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the drugs of choice for the treatment of acid-related diseases such as peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Currently there are five commonly used PPIs in clinical practice: omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, pantoprazole and esomeprazole. Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole, which reduces gastric acid secretion through a specific raking mechanism of action, and is a specific inhibitor of the proton pump in the mural cells.
