It is also known as hinokitiol, a natural compound of monoterpenes with a phenolic ketone skeleton extracted from the trunk of Taiwan cypress by the Japanese scientist Anderson in 1948. It is a phenolic ketone compound with good antibacterial activity. It is a high-safety botanical ingredient. It can be used as an antibacterial and insect repellent. It is the main component of Taiwan cypress essential oil. It has a wide range of biological activities and has strong bactericidal ability for general bacteria.

The minimum inhibitory concentration is 10-100ppm, the odor is fragrant and the effect is good. It can kill bacteria and micro bacteria in the air, prevent pests from invading the human body, and inhibit human pathogenic bacteria. It has been used in the production of shower gel, cosmetics, medicine and other products. The effect of eucalyptus on the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was announced. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme in the formation of melanin. It can catalyze the conversion of leucine and dopa into many melanin and brown pigment in many ways, which can cause the formation of freckles, chloasma and pregnancy spots. In vitro experiments showed that eucalyptus had a strong inhibitory effect on tyrosinase bisphenolase. With dopa as a substrate, the concentration of eucalyptus (IC50), which resulted in a 50% decrease in enzyme activity, was 0.3 umol/l. Its inhibition is a reversible process, indicating that eucalyptus only inhibits tyrosinase activity without causing permanent inactivation of the enzyme.

Tyrosinase is a ketone-containing oxidoreductase, the base of the 2-position of sterol Cycloheptane and the 1 position.
