More Info: Hydrocortisone is a 17alpha-hydroxy-C21-steroid that is pregn-4-ene substituted by oxo groups at positions 3 and 20 and hydroxy groups at positions 11, 17 and 21. Its pharmacological action involves diffusing into target cells, binding to its receptor, forming a steroid-receptor complex. The activated steroid-receptor complex acts as a transcription factor, binding to specific sequences on DNA as a dimer, regulating gene transcription, increasing mRNA production, and synthesizing corresponding proteins based on this template. These proteins facilitate the physiological and pharmacological effects of steroid hormones within target cells.
