L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate is the conversion of 5, 10-methylene tetrahydrofolate into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate with biological functions in folate metabolic pathway. L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate can further enter the methyl-transfer pathway, providing indirect methylation for DNA methylation and protein methylation through the re-methylation process of homocysteine and keeping homocysteine levels in the blood at a lower level.

Application:

L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate is the most biologically active and functional form of folate, the only way that folate participates in physiological metabolism, and the only form of free folate that appears in animal plasma and cells. It is mainly used as a pharmaceutical active ingredient and food additive to prevent fetal neural tube defects, arteriosclerosis, treat megaloblastic anemia, enhance the therapeutic effect of fluoropyrimidine, and treat autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis.
