Sitapliptin, a novel anti-type 2 diabetes drug developed by Merck, is the first dipeptidyl peptidase-ⅳ (DPP-Ⅳ) inhibitor for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, often in the form of phosphate. Sitapliptin prevents and treats type 2 diabetes, hyperglycemia, insulin Chemicalbook resistance, obesity and hypertension, as well as certain complications. Sittalliptin phosphate was developed by Merck and marketed in Mexico and the United States in 2006, and was approved in the European Union for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in 2007. Sitapliptin phosphate tablets have become the second largest oral diabetes drug in the United States.
